A 5,000 year old Art...
"The magical world of Henna"
A 5000 year old Eastern tradition of using natures finest ingredients to decorate the body with temporary colour. The leaves of the Henna plant "Lawsonnia Inermis" (the latin name) are dried and ground to a powder which then produces a powerful staining paste. This paste is then applied to skin in various patterns and designs.
What is Henna?
Henna is a natural product, derived from a plant called (lawsonia inermis) found in tropical climates. This plant is then harvested to make a very fine henna powder. Pure henna is a natural semi-permanent dye producing a dark orange pigment when applied. Henna has been used as a cosmetic and for its natural healing properties for 5000 years.
What is Mehendi?
Mehendi is the art of applying henna to the body. The 'Art' derives from ancient Eastern cultures. Henna body decoration is still used today in traditional Indian ceremonies to create elaborate designs on various parts of the body. This practise has also been adopted by westerners as a fashionable alternative to more conventional and more permanent methods of body decoration.
